home, sweet apartment

i've been putting off taking pictures of our new place for a while now. there are still a couple of boxes to unpack and a few things to buy. but i decided after hazel's birthday party that we're as put together as we're going to be for a while and this is as clean as the whole place gets. so without any further ado, here's our apartment:taken from the hallway looking towards the front door.
taken from the dining area

taken from the front door. the black desk usually holds our lappy. you can see the door to the hallway closet and grant's 6th anniversary gift hanging on the wall.

taken from behind the chair in the corner.

the slightly bigger kitchen and the wonderful gate that keeps lucy out.

to the left: we have the cupboards, sink and cheap, paint-stained dishwasher.

to the right: the refrigerator, stovetopped [electric] oven (i've burned several dinners trying to get used to using electric appliances again. weird, considering i only used gas for a year. hmmm.), and:

a microwave! in the year we spent without one, i've kind of forgotten what i ever used it for, but then i remember popcorn! i no longer need to melt butter in the oven and i can reheat leftovers so much faster. and then there's this lovely creature:
a pantry! can my life get any better? (probably, but this is good for now). and this next picture is for you mom:

yep, that's the can organizer that you gave me 3 or 4 years ago. i can actually use it now. hallelujah! anyway, moving on:

la toilet. this picture makes it look so much smaller than it is. it's a good size with more storage space than we've ever had in a bathroom, you can see the linen cupboards in the mirror. and if you could turn to the left, you'd see a door. upon opening said door you'd see this:
a laundry room, not closet. yes, i love it (not laundry, but having somewhere to hide it). and finally:

our room. taken from the doorway.

taken from the opposite corner. my purse is hanging on the door of our closet. we have a nice little vanity that makes not having 2 bathrooms easier.

the wall of clutter. i still need to organize better, but i'll be honest and say that that will probably never happen. pictures of the girls room are here. well, i think that is everything. any questions?

there have been some really bad days lately

the kids just whine and fight and scream and cry and make mess after mess after mess. i can't get anything done because they need more juice or more snacks or another movie or another book. i can't go anywhere because i haven't had a chance to shower or do laundry. lucy's climbing on the table, pushing buttons on the tv, stealing hazel's crackers, throwing her juice/toy/binky, splashing in the toilet, pulling books off the shelf, playing with my phone, or pulling hazel's hair. hazel is whining for some more 'hmmmmm...what do we wike?', jumping off the couch, pushing lucy down, shutting lucy in a room, stealing binkies, yelling for 'more orangemelons [marshmallows]', refusing to stay in bed for a nap, hitting me, stealing gum, spilling juice or chocolate milk, or picking paint off the walls. it's tiring for me and, thank heavens, it wears them out too:

on the bad days, i've started going in their room after they fall asleep. there is nothing more soothing to my soul then my babies sleeping:they are just too precious for words. all of the frustration and anger melt away:and as i listen to hazel snore, i wonder, "how did she fall asleep like this?":and "lucy, are you comfortable with your feet hanging out of the crib and the sun in your eyes?":anyway, i thought that this would be an appropriate post to begin the tour of our new-ish apartment. starting with the girls' room: here we are looking through the door from the hallway. below is the toy corner. this room is smaller than their last one, so to make all of the furniture fit, i had to stand their toy shelf up:and here is hazel's bed. the white on the far right is part of the closet door which spans most of the wall: *in case you're shocked by the cleanliness of their room, let me note that grant had taken the girls to the park and i, in my confusion at having a moment to myself, decided to clean up their toys. this room will never look like that again because 30 seconds after they came home, it was back to where it was before i spent my free time straightening it up.*

me ol' bamboo

the last week has been super busy. we packed:hazel cleaned:
and we moved it all through torrential rain to our new apartment. here are some peeks:
this is the view from the front door. straight ahead is the dining area, the doorway on the left is the pantry inside our bigger (not big) kitchen.
the hallway closet.

the hallway, looking down to the master bedroom. the girls room is on the left, the hall closet is the first door on the right and the bathroom is the second. i'm really excited about our new place. i'll post better pictures of it later when it's all put together. the only thing i'm sad to leave behind at our old place (which i loved, until we got neighbors) is the beautiful bamboo that was right outside our door:

anyway, we finished moving saturday and on sunday, we left for utah. the first day made for some pretty bland scenery:

but once we made it into colorado, it got more interesting:

the girls were ok. hazel was easily entertained with coloring and movies (at least until our players broke, sigh, it'll be a long drive back).

lucy, on the other hand, screamed and squealed a lot. we found the reason why on the second day, she has another tooth (her left eye-tooth) and a little tylenol conked her out:
